\nRESUMO<\/strong>
\nAs tecnologias digitais vieram causar forte impacto na comunica\u00e7\u00e3o humana. As suas anteriores din\u00e2micas, regras e limites v\u00eam-se agora totalmente abalados e a sociedade moderna esfor\u00e7a-se por retirar algum sentido das constantes transforma\u00e7\u00f5es a que tem assistido, procurando encontrar um novo lugar dentro da complexa, e por muitos considerada ca\u00f3tica, estrutura comunicacional apresentada pelos novos media. Uma das mais recentes, embora h\u00e1 muito esperada, transforma\u00e7\u00f5es, resulta da introdu\u00e7\u00e3o do livro digital no mercado, de uso cada vez mais generalizado pela sua associa\u00e7\u00e3o aos e-readers crescentemente mais acess\u00edveis a todos. O livro digital e os seus dispositivos de leitura prometem vir remediar completamente o livro impresso e a experi\u00eancia da leitura, reformando-os no espa\u00e7o circunscrito do ecr\u00e3.Esta investiga\u00e7\u00e3o nasce da constata\u00e7\u00e3o, enquanto leitores e designers de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o, das muitas altera\u00e7\u00f5es que se t\u00eam processado pela adop\u00e7\u00e3o deste novo forma\u00acto, quer no contexto da publica\u00e7\u00e3o, suas din\u00e2micas e ritmos pr\u00f3prios, quer na forma como a leitura decorre agora neste novo espa\u00e7o, constitu\u00eddo por pixeis, e das muitas falhas e problemas que o livro digital parece apresentar. Destas resulta obviamente um decr\u00e9scimo grave das qualidades visuais associadas ao texto impresso e das vantagens funcionais associadas ao livro-objecto. Surge ent\u00e3o a necessidade de aproximar o designer do novo contexto, fazendo uma an\u00e1lise detalhada das suas caracter\u00edsticas, implica\u00e7\u00f5es e falhas, sob o ponto de vista do design de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o, que n\u00e3o s\u00f3 nos torne mais conscientes do real im\u00acpacto negativo que estas podem ter sobre a experi\u00eancia da leitura, mas que tamb\u00e9m nos permita delinear poss\u00edveis solu\u00e7\u00f5es e caminhos de actua\u00e7\u00e3o que nos possibilitem estabelecer uma linguagem visual pr\u00f3pria e adequada ao design do novo livro digital

ABSTRACT<\/strong>
\nDigital technologies have come to cause a strong impact on human communica- tion. Their previous dynamics, rules and limits are now completely changed and our society strives to make sense of all those transformations, trying to find its new place within the complex, and by many considered chaotic, communication structure new media technologies presented us with.
\nOne of the most recent, although long expected, change was caused by the intro- duction of the digital book in the markets. Its widespread is quickly increasing due to its association with e-readers, which are becoming more and more accessible to all. The book and its digital reading devices promise a complete remediation of both the printed book and the reading experience, recreating them in the circumscribed space of its screen.
\nThis research is the result of the acknowledgement, while readers and commu- nication designers, of the many changes brought with the adoption of this new for- mat, either in the context of publishing, its rhythms and dynamics, and the way read- ing now takes place, in this new space made of pixels, as well as the many problems and faults which seem to be characterize the digital book. This obviously results in a severe decrease of both the visual qualities associated with the printed text and the functional qualities associated with the book-object.
\nWe then propose to reunite designer and the new context, undertaking a detailed analysis of its characteristics, implications and shortcomings, within the context of communication design. This analysis will not only makes us aware of the real nega- tive impact digital devices may have on reading experience, as will also allow us to outline possible solutions and strategies of action that may guide us in the task of establishing an adequate visual language for the new digital book.
